Turkey Visa for Indians 2026: e-Visa Rules, Fees, Sticker Visa

· 8 min read · By the Travlys visa team

Indian passport holders need a visa for Türkiye. A valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa or residence permit gets you a quick e-Visa; everyone else applies for a sticker visa through the authorised visa centre.

Yes, Indians need a visa for Türkiye. If you hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa or residence permit, you can get a single-entry e-Visa online at evisa.gov.tr for a visit of up to one month. Everyone else applies for a sticker visa through the authorised visa application centre for the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulate General in Mumbai.

At a glance: Visa needed: Yes, for Indian ordinary passports. e-Visa: Only with a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa or residence permit. e-Visa type: Single entry, valid for one month, tourism or business only. Apply at: evisa.gov.tr only. Visa on arrival: Not listed for Indians. Sticker visa: Through the authorised visa centre; the embassy's fee table lists ₹4,555 for single entry plus a service fee. Passport: At least six months' validity from arrival is advised.

Do Indians need a visa for Turkey?

Yes. Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Indian ordinary, special and service passport holders need a visa, while diplomatic passport holders are exempt for up to 90 days. The quickest option is the e-Visa, but it is open to you only if you hold one of four accepted supporting documents.

Who qualifies for the Türkiye e-Visa

You can apply for the e-Visa if you hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi adds some useful detail on how this works in practice.

  • Used or unused is fine: A visa you have never used still counts, as long as it is valid on the day you enter Türkiye.
  • Expired does not count: If your US or Schengen visa ends before your Türkiye entry date, you need a sticker visa.
  • Old passport is fine: If the supporting visa is in an old passport, register the e-Visa on your current passport and carry both.
  • Carry originals: The e-Visa website does not check your supporting document. The airline and Turkish immigration do, and the airline can refuse boarding if it does not meet the rules.
  • Other countries' e-visas do not count: The embassy says e-visas issued by other countries are not accepted as supporting documents.

Check this if your UK visa is digital: The UK has been moving visa holders to digital eVisas. Because the Turkish embassy says e-visas from other countries are not accepted as supporting documents, confirm with your airline or through the evisa.gov.tr enquiry form before you rely on a UK permission that has no sticker in your passport.

What the application asks you to confirm

When you apply, the portal asks you to confirm certain conditions. Applicant reports say these include a return ticket, a hotel booking and enough money for your stay, often quoted as US$50 a day. We could not read these conditions on an official page, so print your return ticket, hotel booking and a recent bank statement and keep them in your hand luggage.

e-Visa fee, validity and stay

The ministry describes the Indian e-Visa as single entry and valid for one month. It covers tourism and business visits only; work and study need a visa from a Turkish embassy or consulate. The fee appears on evisa.gov.tr before payment. We could not confirm the current amount from an official page; recent reports put it between about US$43 and US$51 including service charges. The embassy says the e-Visa costs at least US$85 less than a sticker visa and takes about three minutes to complete.

Apply only on evisa.gov.tr. The embassy warns that other websites claiming to sell Turkish e-Visas can charge more than twice the official fee, and that no company is authorised to apply on your behalf in India.

The sticker visa route

If you have no qualifying US, UK, Schengen or Irish document, you need a sticker visa. The Turkish Embassy and consulates do not accept applications directly. The embassy's pages name Gateway as the authorised visa application company, with centres in cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Some 2026 guides say VFS Global has taken over in India; we could not confirm this on an official Turkish government page, so check the embassy website before you book an appointment.

The embassy's fee notice, last updated in January 2022, lists ₹4,555 for a single-entry visa and ₹14,410 for multiple entry, plus a service fee of US$50 (regular) or US$75 (VIP) before taxes. Third-party guides quoting the visa centre's 2025 fee chart put the total for a three-month single-entry tourist visa at about ₹17,700. Treat that as a guide only and confirm the amount when you book.

Documents most applicants need

  • Passport valid for at least six months from arrival, with blank pages, plus old passports.
  • Completed application form and recent photographs.
  • Confirmed return flights and hotel bookings for the whole trip.
  • Recent bank statements and income tax returns.
  • Employment letter with approved leave, or business or college documents.
  • Travel medical insurance for the full trip.
  • A short covering letter with your itinerary.

The checklist for your jurisdiction at the visa centre is final, so download it when you book. No official processing time is published for India. Apply at least four weeks before you fly.

What changed in 2025-2026

We found no official change in 2025 or 2026 to the e-Visa rules for Indian passport holders. Two related points are worth knowing.

  • COP31 in Antalya: The UN climate conference runs in Antalya from 9 to 20 November 2026. Registered participants get a free COP31 visa through the e-Visa system, valid 1 to 30 November 2026. It does not cover ordinary tourists or unregistered companions, and Antalya hotels will be busy on those dates.
  • Istanbul transit to Latin America: Since 15 April 2024, Indian passport holders transiting Istanbul Airport to Mexico, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela need a free electronic airport transit visa (e-ATV) from evisa.gov.tr. Carry a printout.

Practical tips for Istanbul and Cappadocia

  • Get the e-Visa early: It takes minutes, but apply once your flights are fixed and save the PDF on your phone and on paper.
  • Cappadocia balloon flights depend on the weather: Flights are often cancelled for wind. Keep two or three mornings free so a cancellation does not ruin the trip.
  • Getting to Cappadocia: The quickest way is to fly from Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevşehir and take a transfer to Göreme or Ürgüp. Night buses are cheaper but cost you a day.
  • Istanbul timing: The big mosques close to visitors at prayer times. Dress modestly and carry a scarf.
  • Winter trips: Cappadocia gets snow and cold mornings from December to February. Pack warm layers for balloon dawns.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying on a look-alike website instead of evisa.gov.tr.
  • Relying on a US or Schengen visa that expires before your arrival date.
  • Assuming a Dubai or other Gulf residence visa qualifies. It does not.
  • Using the e-Visa for a second entry after a side trip to Greece or Georgia. It is single entry.
  • Booking non-refundable flights before a sticker visa is approved.

Who should use which route

If you already hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa, use the e-Visa and keep the trip under a month. If you are combining Europe and Türkiye, get your Schengen visa first; it can then make you eligible for the e-Visa. If you have none of these documents, plan for a sticker visa and give yourself time.

Frequently asked questions

Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Turkey?

No. Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa and lists no visa on arrival for them. You either get the e-Visa online at evisa.gov.tr, which needs a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa or residence permit, or you apply for a sticker visa through the authorised visa application centre in India before you travel.

Can I get the Turkey e-Visa with a used or unused US visa?

Yes, both work as long as the visa is valid on the day you enter Türkiye. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi says previously used or unused visas are accepted if their validity covers your entry date. An expired US, UK or Schengen visa does not qualify. Carry the original visa or permit, because the airline and Turkish immigration check it, not the e-Visa website.

How much does the Turkey e-Visa cost for Indians?

The exact fee is shown on evisa.gov.tr before you pay, and we could not confirm the current figure from an official page. Recent reports put it at roughly US$43 to US$51 including service charges. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi says the e-Visa costs at least US$85 less than a sticker visa. Pay only on evisa.gov.tr, because look-alike sites charge more.

How long can I stay in Turkey on an e-Visa?

The e-Visa for Indian passport holders is single entry and valid for one month, according to Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It covers tourism and business visits only, not work or study. If you leave Türkiye, you need a new e-Visa to come back. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Does a UAE or Saudi residence visa make me eligible for the Turkey e-Visa?

No. Türkiye's foreign ministry lists only Schengen, US, UK and Irish visas or residence permits as supporting documents for Indian passport holders. A residence permit from the UAE, Saudi Arabia or another Gulf country does not qualify on its own. Without one of the four accepted documents, you need a sticker visa from the Turkish mission covering where you live.

How long does a Turkey sticker visa take from India?

No official processing time is published for India. Times vary by city and season, so apply at least four weeks before travel and do not book non-refundable flights until the visa is stamped. Turkish missions in India do not take applications directly; you book through the authorised visa application centre and submit documents and biometrics there.
