· 8 min read · By the Travlys visa team
Indians need a visa for Vietnam, and the e-visa on the official portal is the easiest route: USD 25 or USD 50, up to 90 days. Phu Quoc island is the one visa-free exception.
Indians need a visa for Vietnam, and the easiest option is the e-visa from the official portal, evisa.gov.vn. It costs USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry, is valid for up to 90 days, and is processed within about 3 working days. The one exception is Phu Quoc island, where any foreigner can stay up to 30 days without a visa.
At a glance: Official portal: evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn. Fee: USD 25 single entry, USD 50 multiple entry, unchanged under the fee circular effective 1 April 2026. Validity: Up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, since 15 August 2023. Processing: Within 3 working days after a complete application and payment. Refund: None if refused. Entry points: 83 airports, land borders and seaports accept e-visas. Phu Quoc: 30 days visa-free for all nationalities on the island only. Passport: At least 6 months' validity.
The official portal, and how to avoid look-alike sites
Vietnam's Immigration Department moved the e-visa system to evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn on 11 November 2024. These are the only addresses you need. Search results are full of private sites with "Vietnam e-visa" in the name, the national flag and official-looking seals. They charge you the government fee plus their own markup, and some never file anything.
- Type evisa.gov.vn yourself. Do not click sponsored search results.
- Check that the address ends in .gov.vn. A .com, .org or .vn address without .gov is not the government portal.
- The government fee is only USD 25 or USD 50. A quote much higher than that is a service fee.
- Pay only on the portal's own payment page, and save your registration code so you can check the result later.
Vietnam e-visa fee in 2026
Vietnam's Finance Ministry issued a new circular on immigration fees, Circular 28/2026/TT-BTC, effective 1 April 2026. According to the Government News portal, it keeps the visa fee at USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry up to 90 days. The Immigration Department states that the e-visa fee is paid through its online payment gateway and is not refunded if the application is refused.
For a family of four on single-entry visas, that is USD 100 in government fees. Pay with an international debit or credit card, and expect your bank's usual foreign currency charge on top.
Validity, processing time and how to apply
Since 15 August 2023, Vietnam's e-visa can be issued for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, to citizens of all countries. You choose the start and end dates on the form, and you must enter and leave within those dates. The Ministry of Public Security says applications are decided within 3 working days of receiving a complete application and the fee.
- Keep ready a colour scan of your passport bio page and a recent front-facing photo on a white background, without glasses.
- Your passport should have at least 6 months' validity when you enter.
- Fill in your name exactly as printed in the passport, plus your planned address in Vietnam and your intended entry and exit points.
- Pay the fee, note your registration code, and check the result on the portal after 3 working days.
- Download the approved e-visa, check every detail, and carry a printout as well as a copy on your phone.
Common mistakes: Typing the passport number or date of birth wrongly, swapping first name and surname, uploading a selfie with glasses or a busy background, and picking an entry date later than your actual arrival. Any of these can mean a refusal or a fresh application with a fresh fee.
Apply at least two to three weeks before you fly, and earlier before Tet (Lunar New Year falls on 6 February in 2027) or the December holiday peak. Choose multiple entry if you plan a loop into Cambodia, Laos or Thailand and back.
Which entry points accept the e-visa?
A Government resolution dated 2 December 2025 added 41 more checkpoints, bringing the total to 83: 17 airports, 27 land borders and 39 seaports, according to Vietnam News. For Indian travellers the main airports are Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) and Phu Quoc. The new Long Thanh airport near Ho Chi Minh City will accept e-visas once it opens. Check that both your entry and exit points are on the official list before you book.
Phu Quoc visa exemption: does it apply to Indians?
Yes. Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists a 30-day visa exemption for foreigners entering Phu Quoc, with no restriction by nationality. It also covers travellers who stay in the international transit area of another Vietnamese airport or seaport and then continue to Phu Quoc.
- You must stay on Phu Quoc. To travel to the mainland, you need a visa, such as an e-visa.
- The exemption is for a maximum of 30 days.
- Carry a return or onward ticket from Phu Quoc and your hotel booking. Airline staff in India check documents at check-in.
- If you connect through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, the exemption works only if you stay in international transit and do not clear immigration there. Confirm with your airline that your connection allows this.
If you plan to combine Phu Quoc with Da Nang or Hanoi, skip the exemption and get a single e-visa that covers the whole trip.
Where Indians go in Vietnam
Phu Quoc
Beaches, resorts and the cable car to Hon Thom. Best in the dry season, roughly December to April. Good for couples and families who want a short, easy beach break.
Da Nang and Hoi An
City beaches, Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge, with the old town of Hoi An 45 minutes away. Visit between February and August; September to December brings heavy rain and storm risk.
Hanoi and Ha Long Bay
Old Quarter street food, then an overnight cruise in Ha Long Bay or Lan Ha Bay. October to April is the most comfortable; December to February can be cool, so pack a jacket.
Ho Chi Minh City
Markets, the War Remnants Museum, the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta day trips. It is warm all year, with a drier spell roughly from December to April.
A first trip of 7 to 9 days usually covers two regions, for example Hanoi with Ha Long, then Da Nang and Hoi An. Fly between regions instead of taking long overland routes.
Flights from India
Vietnam Airlines flies nonstop to Vietnam from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and is adding Ahmedabad to Hanoi from 3 November 2026, four times a week, according to Business Today and Outlook Traveller. IndiGo and VietJet also operate nonstop flights from several Indian cities to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; check their sites for current schedules. We could not confirm any nonstop flight from India to Phu Quoc or Da Nang, so plan on a connection for those.
Money tips
- Vietnam uses the dong (VND). Rupees are hard to exchange, so carry US dollars in clean, newer notes and change them in Vietnam, or use a forex card.
- ATMs are common in cities. Cards work in hotels, malls and larger restaurants; street food, markets and small shops want cash.
- Notes run into large numbers. The 20,000 and 500,000 notes look alike, so check before you pay.
- Use ride-hailing apps such as Grab for fixed fares instead of negotiating with street taxis.
- Bargain politely at markets, and tell your bank about your travel dates before you leave.

Frequently asked questions
Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. India is not on Vietnam's list of countries with visa-free entry for ordinary passports, so Indian tourists need a visa. The easiest option is the e-visa from Vietnam's Immigration Department portal, evisa.gov.vn. The one exception is Phu Quoc island, where any foreigner can stay up to 30 days without a visa if they arrive directly and stay on the island.
What is the official Vietnam e-visa website?
The official portal is evisa.gov.vn, with thithucdientu.gov.vn as a second official address. Vietnam's Immigration Department moved the e-visa system to these two domains on 11 November 2024. Many private websites use similar names, flags and seals and charge extra. Type the address yourself rather than clicking a search ad, and check that it ends in .gov.vn.
How much is the Vietnam e-visa for Indians in 2026?
The government fee is USD 25 for a single-entry e-visa and USD 50 for a multiple-entry e-visa of up to 90 days. Vietnam's fee circular that took effect on 1 April 2026 kept these amounts. The fee is paid online on the portal and is not refunded if your application is refused. Your bank may add a small foreign currency charge.
How long does the Vietnam e-visa take?
Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security says applications are processed within 3 working days of receiving a complete application and the fee. Weekends, Vietnamese public holidays and errors in your form can stretch this. Apply at least two to three weeks before you fly, and longer before Tet (Lunar New Year) or the Christmas and New Year peak.
Can Indians visit Phu Quoc without a visa?
Yes. Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists a 30-day visa exemption for foreigners entering Phu Quoc, with no nationality restriction, so it covers Indian passport holders. You must arrive from abroad, either directly or by staying in the international transit area of another Vietnamese airport, and stay on Phu Quoc. To visit the mainland you need a visa, such as an e-visa.
Can I use a Vietnam e-visa for multiple entries?
Yes. Since 15 August 2023, Vietnam's e-visa can be issued for single or multiple entries, with a maximum validity of 90 days. A multiple-entry e-visa costs USD 50 and suits trips that loop into Cambodia, Laos or Thailand and back. Choose the entry type carefully when you apply, because you cannot change it afterwards.
