Mauritius Visa for Indians 2026: Visa-Free Entry Rules

· 7 min read · By the Travlys visa team

Indian passport holders can holiday in Mauritius without a visa. The immigration officer sets your stay on arrival, and since October 2025 hotels collect a €3 per night tourist fee.

Indian passport holders do not need a visa to visit Mauritius as tourists. The Passport and Immigration Office lists India under 'No visa required', and the immigration officer at the airport decides how long you can stay. You need a passport valid beyond your stay, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking and enough money, and your hotel will add a tourist fee of €3 per person per night.

At a glance: Visa for Indians: Not required for tourism. Visa fee: None. Length of stay: Set by the immigration officer on arrival; tourist stays are capped at six months in a calendar year. Must carry: Passport valid beyond your stay, return ticket, confirmed hotel booking or sponsorship, adequate funds. Online form: Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form, free, recommended. Tourist fee: €3 per person per night for ages 12 and above, since 1 October 2025. Extensions: Free, in person in Port Louis. e-Visa or ETA: Proposed in Budget 2026-27, not yet in force.

Do Indians need a visa for Mauritius?

No. The country-wise visa list published by the Mauritius Passport and Immigration Office marks India as 'No visa required'. You do not apply online or at a consulate before a holiday. Entry is still not automatic: the immigration officer at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport checks your documents and decides whether to admit you.

This only covers tourism. Business visitors, people going for religious or social events with a sponsor, and anyone planning to work need to follow different rules. Working in Mauritius without a residence permit is not allowed.

How long can you stay?

This is where most websites disagree. The official position is that the immigration officer decides how long each person can stay, and that a tourist can be given a maximum of six months in a calendar year, case by case. No official page fixes a number for Indians.

Many travel guides and insurers say Indians are usually allowed up to 60 days, and a few say 90 days. For a normal one- or two-week holiday this does not matter. If you plan a long stay, ask for your full period at the counter, show bookings that cover it, and check the date stamped in your passport before you leave the airport.

Entry conditions at the airport

The Passport and Immigration Office says every person entering Mauritius must:

  • Passport: Hold a passport valid beyond the intended stay. We suggest at least six months, as airlines often check this at boarding.
  • Return ticket: Hold a valid return ticket to their country of origin or residence.
  • Right to return: Be eligible to re-enter their home country.
  • Funds: Have adequate funds for the stay. No fixed amount is published, so carry an international card and recent bank statements.
  • Accommodation: Have a confirmed hotel booking, or sponsorship for accommodation.
  • No work: Not take up any paid activity without a valid residence permit.

The All-in-One Travel Digital Form

Mauritius uses one online form that covers immigration, customs and health details. The official portal is safemauritius.govmu.org, and the form is free. When you submit it, it creates a PDF with a QR code. Print it and carry it with your passport.

Airports of Mauritius and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority describe the form as recommended before travel. If you do not fill it, you complete a paper immigration disembarkation card on arrival, which takes longer. Air Mauritius has described it as mandatory before boarding, so the safe move is to fill it before you fly. Ignore websites that charge to submit it. The Mauritian authorities say paid third-party services are not endorsed.

Tourist fee: €3 per night since October 2025

From 1 October 2025, every tourist aged 12 and above pays €3 per night when staying in a tourist accommodation on the island of Mauritius. That covers hotels, guesthouses, tourist residences and domaines. The property collects the fee and pays it to the Mauritius Revenue Authority, so you pay it with your hotel bill or at checkout.

  • Couple, 7 nights: 2 x 7 x €3 = €42.
  • Family of four with two children under 12, 7 nights: 2 x 7 x €3 = €42, as children under 12 are exempt.
  • Not charged: Children under 12, guests staying free of charge, residents, Mauritian passport holders living abroad, and holders of a Premium Visa or residence permit.
  • Rodrigues: The fee does not currently apply there.

Airport and departure charges for Mauritius are normally built into your air fare. Check the tax lines on your ticket if you want the exact amount.

What changed in 2025 and 2026

  • 1 October 2025: The €3 per night tourist fee started, collected by accommodation providers for the Mauritius Revenue Authority.
  • March 2026: The Mauritius Revenue Authority updated its tourist fee guide. The rate and exemptions stayed the same.
  • June 2026: The Budget 2026-27 proposed a digital e-visa or electronic travel authorisation for all non-citizens to apply before travel, along with biometric e-gates at the airport. It needs a change to the Immigration Act and was not in force on 28 October 2026. Reports suggest 2027.
  • No change for Indians: India remains on the 'No visa required' list, and visas and extensions are still issued free.

Extending your stay

If you want to stay longer than the period stamped on arrival, apply in person at the Passport and Immigration Office, Sterling House, Lislet Geoffroy Street, Port Louis, before your stay ends. There is no fee. Take the signed visa extension form, copies of your passport bio page and arrival stamp, a ticket reservation, three months of bank statements and a confirmed accommodation booking. If someone in Mauritius is hosting you, they must give a sponsorship letter and supporting documents. Overstaying is an offence and can lead to prosecution.

Practical tips for Indian travellers

  • Carry printouts. Keep your return ticket, hotel vouchers, travel form PDF and bank statements in one folder. Officers can ask for any of them.
  • Book registered stays. The rule asks for a confirmed hotel booking. A licensed hotel, guesthouse or villa makes the counter check simple.
  • Honeymooners: Many hotels offer couple packages, so mention it when you book. Spread your stay between the north and the south-west coast if you have a week or more.
  • Families: Children under 12 pay no tourist fee, but each child still needs their own passport and is included in the travel form.
  • Insurance: Mauritius does not ask for it at entry, but private treatment abroad can be expensive. Buy a policy that covers your full stay.
  • Rodrigues: A domestic trip to Rodrigues has no tourist fee at present. Check flight and ferry schedules early.

Common mistakes

  • Flying on a one-way ticket, or with a return date that does not match your hotel bookings.
  • Paying a third-party site for the free All-in-One Travel Form.
  • Assuming everyone automatically gets 90 days without checking the stamp.
  • Taking up freelance or paid work on a tourist entry.

Who Mauritius suits

Mauritius suits couples, families and older travellers who want beaches, varied sightseeing and an easy entry process. It is a longer and usually costlier trip than Thailand or Sri Lanka, so budget travellers may get more days for the same money elsewhere. If you want island resorts with fewer rules on dress and alcohol than the Maldives' local islands, it is a good fit.

Frequently asked questions

Do Indians need a visa for Mauritius in 2026?

No. The Mauritius Passport and Immigration Office lists India as 'No visa required', so Indian tourists do not apply before travel. At the airport you must show a passport valid beyond your stay, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking or sponsorship, and enough money for your stay. The immigration officer decides whether to admit you and for how long.

How many days can Indians stay in Mauritius without a visa?

The immigration officer sets your stay on arrival and stamps it in your passport. The official rule caps tourist stays at six months in a calendar year, granted case by case. Many travel guides say Indians are usually given up to 60 days, and a few say 90 days, but no official page fixes a number for Indians. Plan your return within the date stamped in your passport.

Is the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Form mandatory?

Officially it is recommended, not mandatory. Airports of Mauritius and the Mauritius tourism board say travellers should fill it before travel on safemauritius.govmu.org. If you skip it, you fill a paper disembarkation card on arrival. Air Mauritius has described it as required before boarding, so fill it anyway. It is free and gives you a PDF with a QR code to print.

What is the Mauritius tourist fee?

It is €3 per person per night, charged since 1 October 2025 to tourists aged 12 and above staying in hotels, guesthouses, tourist residences and domaines on the island of Mauritius. Your accommodation collects it and pays it to the Mauritius Revenue Authority. Children under 12 are exempt, and the fee does not currently apply in Rodrigues.

Can I extend my stay in Mauritius?

Yes. You apply in person at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis before your permitted stay ends. Extensions are free. You need the signed application form, copies of your passport bio page and arrival stamp, a ticket reservation, three months of bank statements and a confirmed accommodation booking. Tourist stays cannot go beyond six months in a calendar year.

Will Mauritius bring in an e-visa or ETA?

It has been proposed but is not in force. The Mauritius Budget 2026-27, presented in June 2026, proposed a digital e-visa system, described in the budget annex as an electronic travel authorisation, for all non-citizens to apply before travel. Reports say a fee will be set. As of 28 October 2026 no start date or fee has been announced, so Indian tourists still enter without pre-approval.
